2003-2011: Team 1047 Echoes

Woodbridge High School’s robotics legacy began a long time ago with the FIRST Robotics Competition team 1047 Echoes in 2003, founded by science teacher Mike Nakaue. By 2008, led by seniors Benjamin Filippenko and Sergiy Nesterenko, the 1047 Echoes continued to excel at the SoCal/LA Regionals level. They won multiple awards, including Delphi's Driving Tomorrow's Technology Award for innovative designs. The team was a high caliber team, with significant financial backing from corporate sponsors like Raytheon and Boeing. They were able to compete in many more competitions such as RoboMagellan and build proof-of-concept designs like functioning Hexapod robots. However, with financial support dwindling, the FRC program dwindled and the Woodbridge Robotics switched to the more affordable Mini-Urban Challenge in 2011.
